While
reading the play my sympathies went to John Proctor instead of Abigail Williams
for a few reasons. The main reason why I didn’t feel any
sympathy towards Abigail is because she led over 15 people to their
death because she wanted to be the new Ms. Proctor. Sentencing 15 people to the
death over a man is bit extreme don't you think?
Even after watching the play I still couldn't convince
myself to be sympathetic towards Abigail. Throughout the play you
could tell that John Proctor regretted what he did and
was trying to fix his marriage, but Abigail on the other hand was
content on being a home wrecker. If Abigail didn’t act like a jealous
crazy homicidal stocker, my opinion of might have been different. But hey,
there had to be an antagonist some where in this play, and since it couldn’t
physically be the devil, Abigail was a close second.
Even thought John did cheat on his wife, Miller showed that
Proctor was an overall good man. Thought out the play Miller created situations
where Proctor could demonstrate, even after his laps in judgment with Abigail,
that he is a good man that truly loves his family and friends.
Out of all of the characters in the play John Proctor is one
of my favorites. The reason why Proctor is one of my favorite is that he shows
that even thought pass mistakes takes a toll on previous and future
relationships you shouldn’t let it take over your life, it will ruin you. (By
the way it really did ruin him. He got hanged at the end. L)
I thought that your opinion was very interesting. Sure i agree Abigail is defiantly insane, and that she took the whole Im going to get him back thing to an extreme! But didn't John Proctor kind of get what he deserved. He did cheat on his wife more than once and led Abigail on... He should have known better to get involved with an adolescent girl would get him into trouble. Its like that saying you made the bed you have to lie in it...
ReplyDeleteDestany while reading your article write up I couldn't agree more. I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the play. I sympathized much more with John even though he had committed adultery. Abigail was very revengeful in the her ways and would do anything to get her way. Even if that meant killing innocent people.
