Well isn't that a great question? In my personal opinion I don't think it its acceptable to break-up with someone through a text message or any other messaging device. It should always be face-to-face, but like all other rules there are a few exceptions.
Now I know what your thinking, its never okay to breakup with someone via text message. It distasteful, they don't give scrap about that persons feelings, and if they're willing to break-up with someone thought any type of messaging system then that automatically makes them an asshole. Even thought these are really good reasons why someone should break-up via text most people see this in black-and-white. THERE ARE SHADES OF GREY PEOPLE!!!!!!! I find it so amazing that most people automatically think that the person that is being dumped is the victim, but you know what?………. Sometimes they deserved it.
In my book there are only a handful of really good reasons to break-up with someone through text. Being caught in the act of cheating and there is a strong possibility of being violently attack in my opinion are very good reasons to break-up with someone via text.
Breaking up with a person via text would seem cowardly and shameful to most people but the threat of being violently attack and possibility causing a scene in a public place are two things the average person would want to avoid. I know that it's not likely that the person that being broken-up would take it lightly but some people just take it over board. If the person that is being dumped has a history of violence then you probably don't want to be in throwing distance of them when the time comes. I could understand why someone wouldn't want to break-up with them face-to-face, at risk of being horribly dismembered. Because everyone knows angry people are scary especially if you're the one that made them angry.
Getting caught cheating on the other had is different story. Being a cheater automatically says that that person doesn't give a crap about their girlfriend's/boyfriend's feelings ( and that they're stupid enough not to take proper precautions and get caught while they're playing the cheating game). But being caught in the act and being accused of cheating are two entirely different things. Don't break-up with someone because you think they're cheating. That's stupid and you'll feel extra crappy when you broke-up with them for no reason and you did it through a text. That's not smart at all. Anyway back on topic, if you're a cheater, why should the person dumping you care about dumping you nicely? I think the text that ends that relationship is a swift kind of karma.

You brought up a really good point about cheating. I didn't even think about that possibility. And we share the same ideas about, if people are angry or scary. I thought your images were very fitting to the topic. It almost seems like, you know someone who had been broken up by texting, by your writing style. Overall your article was interesting and I enjoyed what you had to say.
ReplyDeleteI seriously adore your writing style! You are witty, funny, and get the point across without being a dry writer. It makes reading your blog 10x the fun. Of course your points are very relevant and things I never even thought of. Like you said the person being dumbed isn't always the victim which of course didn't even cross my mind! Cheating and abuse are always solid reasons to get dumb and those scum bags deserve a bomb ass dumping message. You are a very comical writer but you also are a very intelligent writer your points are relevant and insightful which doesn't just make your writing amusing but insightful. Keep it up!
